Our Photography Instructors
Bill is retired from a 34-year career as a civil engineer and construction manager. Along the way, he took some time out to earn a Masters Degree in Education and a teaching certificate. In anticipation of his retirement, he began taking photography classes at CSU Continuing Education and earned his Digital Photography Certificate in 2010. Bill appreciates all aspects of photography, but his principal interest lies in creating and exhibiting fine art photography. Bill’s exhibition credits include: each Columbus Photographers exhibit (2011-14), a solo exhibit in our gallery Bill Adams: Photographs and the LaGrange National, a juried exhibit at the Lamar Dodd Arts Center, in 2012.
Patrick was the senior writer/illustrator for the international group at Charbroil until 2005, when he left to become an instructional designer/trainer for the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. As a freelance photographer for the past seven years Patrick’s clients have included: the Muscogee County School District, Talbot County School District, Kysor Warren, Dream Symbols and Gongs, Silver Fox, Flyer Promo Now and Game Link.
Donald launched his professional photographic career in 1982 and has worked in commercial and advertising photography since that time. In 1989 Donald obtained his Nation Assn. of Scuba Diving Schools instructors rating and began to explore and photograph the underwater world. He works extensively with marine mammals and other oceanic animals that are very difficult to approach, and also photographs beaches, marshes, inter-coastal waterways, and other wildlife environments. This work has produced a museum show, book, videos and films, and his photographs regularly appears in magazines, advertisements, and art galleries. His book, Upon the Face of the Waters is Donald’s vision to help all people to understand the many faces of the ocean.
Fred received a BS in Psychology from the University of Texas at ElPaso and is also a graduate of the Georgia Military College. While serving in the Army and stationed in Germany, he spent ten years studying with a master photographer. Fred has taken a number of classes in our program and frequently travels to workshops outside our area. He is an expert macro photographer and enjoys sharing his experience and expertise with others.
Julie is a macro photography specialist, and her photographs have been published in Country Magazine (twice) and Modern Luxury/JEZEBEL. They have been exhibited in the Annual Juried Columbus Photographers exhibition at the CSU Rankin Arts Photography Center, where she earned a digital photography Certificate in 2013. Julie’s fine art photography has also been exhibited in Slow Exposures, a national juried exhibition that celebrates the rural South, and at CSU’s Oxbow Meadows. She is a contributor for USA Today’s Your Take feature. In addition to her fine art photography, Julie is a professional portrait, wedding and event photographer.
Shawn is from San Diego and has taught Government and Politics and Economics at Smiths Station HS since 2004. He earned a CSU Digital Photography Certificate in 2010. His photographs have been published in the magazines National Geographic Traveler, Alabama Journey and Where: Rome, and several are featured in a new documentary film, Risk, about high-risk births. Shawn’s work is included in the permanent collection of the Knight Museum and Sand Hills Center in Alliance, Nebraska.
Joe has more than 30 years experience in professional photography and his love of art has always been a motivating force behind his work. He and his wife Kathy own and operate jk Dallas Photography, a boutique studio in Historic Uptown Columbus, GA. Joe and Kathy are sought-after destination wedding specialists, having worked at some of the most prestigious venues in the Southeast including the Lake Oconee Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons Atlanta, The Georgian Terrace, as well as in the as well as in the Caribbean, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Paris, and Venice.
Tania, owner of Calderón Foto, has an Associate of Science Degree in Digital Photography from International Academy of Design and Technology and is an accomplished fine art photographer. For seven years she has concentrated on photographing the human form, working on commissions from clients and self generated projects for gallery exhibits. Her work was recognized as Best of Atlanta in 2010 & 2011 by The Atlanta Tribune, The Magazine. Tania currently resides in Columbus GA.
J. Richard Dennard
After a tour in Vietnam as a combat photographer, Richard earned a degree in photojournalism from the University of Georgia, where he also taught as an undergraduate. He owned and operated a successful wedding and portrait studio in Bainbridge, Ga., and was at various times: National Sales Manager, Midwest Operations Manager, Lab Manager and Vice President of Technology at Garrett-Lane Labs in Columbus. Richard is a recipient of both the Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman degrees from the PPA, Professional Photographers of America. He is also a PPA National Award recipient and was the first recipient of both the Georgia Fellowship Degree and the Georgia Service degree.
Kenny is the CSU Digital Photography Program Coordinator, Director of the CSU Rankin Arts Photography Center and Owner of The Art of Photography in Uptown Columbus. Kenny has over 30 years of experience as a fine-art and commercial photographer and over 20 as an instructor. He was a pioneer in wedding photojournalism and studied environmental portraiture with renowned photographer William McIntosh. Kenny’s fine-art photography has been widely exhibited. His fine art photography is included in the permanent collections of the Lamar Dodd Art Center in LaGrange, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, in Atlanta, and the Archives of Columbus State University.
