REFUND POLICY

As Continuing Education is a self-supporting department of Columbus State University, we rely on student registration fees to cover operational costs. If you must withdraw from a course, please notify us by 5 PM at least 3 business days before your course begins.

A full refund minus a $15 processing fee will be issued. You may also choose to receive a credit voucher for the full course amount in lieu of a refund. In this case, the processing fee will be waived. If you withdraw after the 3-day deadline, but before the class begins, you will receive a 50% refund or credit voucher.

No refunds can be given after a class begins. In the event of class cancellation or changes of times and dates, we will attempt to notify you at least 2 business days before the course begins. If you cannot attend the course due to these changes, you will receive a credit voucher, which is valid for 18 months from the date of issue.

Continuing Education does its best to notify students of weather related cancellations in a timely manner; however, due to unforeseen circumstances we are not always able to contact all students. The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized measurement of non-credit course work. One CEU (1.0) may be awarded for each ten hours of participation in an approved program. For selected programs, we keep a permanent record of participation, issue a certificate to acknowledge successful completion of the program, and provide official transcripts to you and your employer. All requests for transcripts must be in writing.

DO YOU OFFER ANY FINANCIAL AID FOR YOUR CLASSES?

Continuing Education classes are non-credit/non-academic classes, so they are not eligible for financial aid through the university. Many Continuing Education certificate courses are approved for funding by the Department of Veterans Service and various military/military spouse aid programs. Check with your Veterans Affairs Representative or other military representative to see if you are eligible. For information about eligibility for specific certification courses, call 706.507.8070.

DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS FOR YOUR CLASSES?

Continuing Education offers payment plans for select Professional Development courses. Eligible courses are taught in-house with a tuition fee of $300 or more. Online courses or courses offered via third-party educational partners do not qualify for this payment plan option. Some third-party programs may be eligible for financial assistance offered through the educational partner.

The Continuing Education payment plan offers the option of paying tuition in three installments. 50% of the tuition is due at the time of registration. The remaining 50% is divided into two equal payments: the first is due on or before the first day of class; the final payment is due by the mid-point of the class. In order to utilize the Continuing Education payment plan option, you must register for the desired course(s) in person and complete a Payment Plan Agreement. For more information or to inquire about the eligibility of specific classes, please call 706.507.8054.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS FOR EARNING A CERTIFICATE WORK?

Our staff is happy to walk you through this process. Call 706-507-8070:

  1. Attend a program orientation.
  2. Request copy of, complete and return the Enrollment Request & Agreement form.
  3. Request copy of the Application for Certificate form.
  4. Take the classes. Your instructor will need to initial for satisfactory completion on the “Coursework completed” section of the application form at the end of each course.
  5. When all coursework is finished, return the completed Application for Certificate to Continuing Education (CE) staff.
  6. CE verifies the student has met attendance and completion requirements.
  7. Certificate is printed and mailed to student (unless pick-up requested).

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE ORIENTATION?

Orientation is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended, as it will provide you with additional information about the courses, program curriculum and will review the certificate application process. You may attend the orientation at any point during the program.

DO ALL THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS REQUIRE AN APPLICATION TO EARN THE CERTIFICATE?

No. Certificate programs consisting of only one course do not require an application for certificate.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A PROGRAM?

Expected time of completion varies by program. You can reasonably expect to complete a program in 1-2 years, depending on rotation of courses and your availability.

WHAT IF I’VE ALREADY TAKEN SOME CLASSES BEFORE DECIDING TO PURSUE THE CERTIFICATE?

No problem. If you’ve successfully completed them within the last 2 years, they will be counted toward your Certificate. Attend the orientation, complete and return an enrollment form and begin keeping track of the classes that you’ve already taken on the Application for Certificate form. Subject to program coordinator approval, the instructor initials requirement may be waived for the past courses you have already taken with instructors that are no longer teaching for CE (this is only once attendance and completion has been verified by CE staff.)

ARE THERE ANY EQUIVALENT CLASSES OR CLASSES THAT CAN BE SUBSTITUTED?

This will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the program coordinator and instructor. If it is determined that other coursework, training or experience is equivalent, the program coordinator will prepare and sign a Class Exemption Certification Letter for you. This must be presented as proof of exemption with the completed Application for Certificate when you reach that point.

IS THERE ANY SORT OF ATTENDANCE OR COMPLETION REQUIREMENT FOR EACH CLASS?

Yes. You must have an 80% or better attendance record to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and therefore ensure satisfactory attendance for certificate programs. Your instructor will also have specific learning objectives that need to be achieved, depending on the course. The instructor’s initials on the Application for Certificate indicates satisfactory achievement of course objectives and at least 80% attendance of the class.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT CLASSES I NEED TO EARN THE CERTIFICATE?

Program curricula are printed in the catalog and are available on the web. View the professional certificate programs we offer here.

WHAT IS THE TURN AROUND TIME FOR THE CERTIFICATE TO BE PRINTED AND MAILED?

Our goal is to complete and mail your certificate in 4 business days from the time the request is received. Verification should be complete within 3 business days. Pick-up certificates should be ready on the 4th business day. Mailed certificates should be outgoing on the 4th business day.
